Scam Alert
Be wary of potential scams. We recently received reports about individuals posing as roofing contractors in Richmond Annex and North Berkeley. These individuals were soliciting inspection and repair services without providing any official paperwork or contract. They claimed affiliation with a company named Collins Roofing and Masonry and even falsely asserted that they engage in contract work for our company, a statement that is entirely untrue. It's important to note that we never directly solicit work.
This deceptive practice aligns with a well-known scam tactic known as "Storm Chasers." These individuals typically trail severe weather events, such as storms or hurricanes, and target homeowners by offering immediate roof repairs. Their methods often involve exaggerating the extent of damage or, in some cases, creating fictitious damage to justify unnecessary and costly repairs. Remain vigilant and exercise caution when approached by individuals making unsolicited roofing service offers, especially if they lack proper documentation or a formal contract.
If you suspect you have encountered a roofing scam, report it to your local authorities and consumer protection agencies. Additionally, consider contacting the Better Business Bureau (BBB) or your state's Attorney General office.
